POORER families are being left in the slow lane as Britain rolls out its electric car revolution.

DVLA figures show drivers in well-off parts of central London are 50 times more likely to have switched to an EV than those in less wealthy and more remote areas.

The data shows the 10 postcodes with the highest uptake of EVs are all in London. In some, a tenth of all privately-owned cars are electric.

At the other end of the chart, big chunks of Birmingham, Middlesbrough, Leeds and Hull are among those with the fewest, with just one in every 500 cars now run on battery.
