'NEXT LLOYD WEBBER' CATCHES CHARLES' EAR

Musician Jack Pepper is just 26 but already has the monarch's ear.

- BY HANNAH BRITT

In fact, he is so in tune with Charles that he has been nicknamed the King's Composer.

Charles asked Jack, who is being hailed as the next Andrew Lloyd Webber, to write an anthem.

This year, Jack was the only musician on The King's Foundation's first 35 Under 35 list of people representing the change His Majesty wants to see.

He took a risk writing Harmony, an anthem inspired by Charles' vision for the planet. Rather than deliver something traditional, he produced something more cinematic and uplifting, with echoes of a West End finale.

The result feels timely, fresh and reflective of a modern monarch, looking to move with the times. In musical circles, people say Jack has given King Charles a "Greatest Showman-style makeover." He premiered Harmony for the King at St James's Palace in June, accompanied by the London Youth Choir and Duchess of Edinburgh's String Orchestra.

The men are clearly kindred spirits when it comes to music. Jack said: "King Charles is somebody who is highly engaged with music and a very active listener. He listens to new music and has an eye for and an ear for detail.
