China Launched a Misinformation Campaign Following the Pahalgam Attack
The Sunday Guardian
|May 11, 2025
In the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on 22 April 2025, many countries supported India's call to end terrorism.
However, China consistently and openly sided with its "iron brother" Pakistan. Despite the positive rhetoric from some scholars, journalists, and well-wishers in India following an agreement between India and China, President Xi Jinping failed to send even one message of condolence. Meanwhile, Chinese social media and prominent Chinese scholars supported Pakistan. In addition, they started a misinformation campaign after India launched "Operation Sindoor" on 7 May 2025.
OFFICIAL CHINESE RESPONSE
The official Chinese response to the attack was limited. President Xi Jinping did not send a message of condolences following the Pahalgam massacre. None of China's official media reported on the terrorist attack. Only a spokesperson from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and China's Ambassador to India expressed condolences. The spokesperson stated that China condemns the attack, firmly opposes all forms of terrorism, and mourns the lives lost while extending sincere sympathies to the bereaved families and the injured.
THE SCHOLARS SPEAK
Li Sirui, a researcher at Beijing Daily, argued that PM Modi's government used Pakistan as a scapegoat to deflect criticism of its Kashmir policy, particularly following the revocation of the region's special status in 2019.
Hu Shisheng, Director of South Asian Studies at CICIR (under the Ministry of State Security (MoSS), China's external intelligence establishment), noted that although tensions between India and Pakistan appeared volatile after the attack, a full-scale war was unlikely due to the risks posed by nuclear weapons and international pressure. He contended that India's aggressive posture, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, was largely a political response to domestic pressure aimed at bolstering the Modi government's image.

EXTERMINATE MOSQUITOES TO ERADICATE EIGHT DEADLY DISEASES
Till now, Iceland, with a harsh, unique climate and geographical isolation, was the only country in the world that was completely free of mosquitoes. Three mosquitoes were found in the Kjos valley in October 2025. Scientists blamed rising temperatures due to climate change and increased travel for these arrivals. Mosquitoes are vectors for deadly diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis, Zika, yellow fever, West Nile virus fever, and filariasis. In 2023, there were an estimated 263 million malaria cases and 597,000 deaths globally. World Malaria Day on 25 April and National Dengue Day on May 16th in India highlight the need for public education, continued investment, and sustained political commitment for prevention and control measures, especially before the monsoon season. ‘Chikungunya' means \"to become contorted,\" (due to severe joint pains) in the Kimakonde language in Tanzania and Mozambique.

The House of Mr Vance
Religious conversions have entirely different connotations for Hindus due to the coercive, including violent, nature of both Islamic and Christian proselytizing in the Indian subcontinent. In Western liberal societies, such as the US, however, religious conversions do not evoke the same response.

WELFARE DELIVERY, MODI FACTOR PROPELLING NDA IN BIHAR POLLS
The Bihar elections opened with opposition parties confident that Nitish Kumar's long incumbency and public fatigue courtesy his 20 years of rule would translate into a difficult contest for the NDA. In the early phase of campaigning, this seemed plausible. The same feeling was also shared by top National Democratic Alliance leaders while interacting with journalists privately, including by two senior BJP Union Ministers, who spoke to this correspondent before and after the poll schedule was announced.
