ST correspondent honoured at Singapore Press Club Awards

Candidates in Indonesia’s 2024 presidential election in February went to great lengths to produce content for social media, hoping it would go viral and raise their profiles.
And now, a story about the Indonesian politicians’ social media push has raised the profile of one of its writers.
The Straits Times’ Indonesia correspondent Hariz Baharudin received the Rising Stars – Young Journalist Award at the Singapore Press Club Awards 2024 on July 13.
The story which he wrote with two colleagues – Indonesia bureau chief Arlina Arshad and Indonesia correspondent Wahyudi Soeriaatmadja – was one of two cited as examples of Mr Hariz’s “excellent storytelling and impactful journalism”.
“His ability to balance detailed political reporting with human interest stories is a testament to his versatility and talent,” said the Singapore Press Club Awards’ judging panel.
Mr Hariz, 34, said: “This endeavour was not just about reporting; it was about bringing the dynamic and intricate reality of Indonesian democracy closer to our audience.”
