Musician weish has an appetite for serious, absurd literature

Her works have gone around the world from the Sundance Film Festival to the Golden Melody Awards.

The former literature teacher's first musical was staged by Checkpoint Theatre in April. Secondary: The Musical follows a young teacher and her students trying to survive a tumultuous term and the education system. The original cast recording, which was released on Nov 25, is available on Spotify at str.sg/bwQJ and on Bandcamp, Apple and YouTube.

"I'm a big Samuel Beckett geek. I dedicated my entire honours thesis at the National University of Singapore to the musicality of Beckett's dramatic oeuvre. I've always found myself gravitating most to modernist and postmodernist work - American poet Sylvia Plath, British playwright Harold Pinter, French philosopher Albert Camus and so on. I'm just your classic lost soul with recurring existential crises and some appetite for the absurd.
