France Galop two-day event in heart of Paris to connect with old, new racing fans

- Michael Lee

Horses Gallop Into City Of Light

The last time Paris echoed to the clippety-clop of hooves was back in the 19th century, before the advent of automobiles when horse-drawn carriages ruled its cobblestone-paved streets.

This weekend, Parisians may think they have travelled back in time.

Right smack in the midst of one of their most iconic landmarks, horses will take centre stage, more specifically, racehorses.

In its constant bid to bring the sport of horse racing to a nation more exposed to football, rugby, tennis or cycling, France Galop will gallop into town with Horses in the City at the Place de la Concorde on Sept 5 and 6.

Described as "two days of festivities, discovery and unforgettable experiences in the very heart of Paris", the racing-themed fair which is a free event, open to all between 10am and 8pm both days — will be jam-packed with activities.

"Les voila partis" (French for the "they're racing" call of a race start) could well be the catchphrase to kick off proceedings on Day 1.
