My own partner's work history defies categorisation. He started life as a painter in Europe specialising in mediaeval restoration work before coming to Australia, where he later became a counsellor, running group therapy sessions. Along the way, he operated a food truck, started a few property- and vehicle-related businesses, and picked up a load of construction skills.
Is he more of a hand, heart or head worker? It's hard to tell.
NO, YOU CAN'T SAY THAT I'm also learning not to box people into racial categories.
A few times, I've innocently made remarks to my Australian friends like saying a certain person "does not look Aboriginal". My friends respond with gentle shock and tell me it is not acceptable to speak of how a person's appearance may correspond or not correspond to stereotypes of racial categories, because doing so perpetuates those very stereotypes.
