The hybrid model of integrating direct-to-consumer streaming services alongside live TV programmes is the future of entertainment for consumers here, which can lead to more affordable prices.

That was the assessment by StarHub’s vice-president of entertainment Yann Courqueux at a press conference on May 21, when the telco introduced an annual pass for English Premier League (EPL) games next season.

The announcement came two days after the EPL unveiled its own subscription options and pricing for the Premier League + for viewers in Singapore, its first direct-to-fans streaming service worldwide.

Courqueux, who was flanked by former EPL stars Nemanja Vidic and Joe Cole during the press conference at the Malayan Settlement restaurant, believes that the Premier League’s streaming service complements StarHub’s offering “very well”.

StarHub’s Premier + Annual pass is priced at $238 for existing subscribers and $380 for new customers. This 12-month subscription to watch the English top-flight competition will launch on June 1.

A stand-alone StarHub Premier + pack currently costs $40.74 a month, with existing customers paying only $25.46.
