New Bill aims to confuse people: Abhishek
The Statesman
|August 21, 2025
Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the Trinamul Congress said, "to do constitutional amendment, a two-third majority is required." We had earlier cautioned people that the BJP will try to change the Constitution. With 240 MPs they are dreaming of changing the Constitution. The aim of this Bill is to confuse people.
The chief election commissioner faltered during the press conference and could not answer the questions raised by the journalists," he said, adding, "the government has no intention to strengthen the country, put an end to terrorism or carry out all-round development. Its sole purpose is to amass power."
The Bill proposes that if a chief minister or any other minister is arrested and kept in custody for 30 days, then on the 31st day, he ceases to be a minister. It is amazing as it does not give self-defence of the arrested person. BJP believes in power without accountability. Are we to take moral lesson from the BJP? "We will take moral lesson from Mamata Banerjee, but not from Modi."
