An artist who defies her age and hurdles—Kiran Dixit Thacker

Hers is an indomitable spirit! Kiran Dixit Thacker has stoically disregarded life's innumerable challenges which have come her way. "Even in the depths of my despair, I can get up and laugh and play," and that gets amply reflected in her works too.
Hers is an indomitable spirit! Kiran Dixit Thacker has stoically disregarded life’s innumerable challenges which have come her way.“Even in the depths of my despair, I can get up and laugh and play,” and that gets amply reflected in her works too.In spite of the traumatic life she has lived—made worse by a stepmother, an abusive husband, and the loss of her only daughter—Kiran’s work exudes positivity! Each of her works is marked by determined lines exposing a certain stubbornness.“My philosophy for work has been derived from what my gurus taught,” says Kiran.
Kiran Dixit Thacker is the only living female disciple of Ramkinkar Baij. Seventy-eight-year-old Kiranloves to work with metal, clay and stone; in fact, she likes to work with most available materials. She has a huge body of work including sculptures and drawings, all of which are stunning. Over 60 of her works were on display at the Birla Academy of Art and Culture from April 2nd to April 6th. Most of her live drawings and water colours were done in London, while all her bronze, stone and meld steel sculptures were done at her studio in Santiniketan.
