The Siliguri Tea Auction Committee (STAC), one of India's most efficient and well-organised tea auction centres since 1976, has introduced a streamlined auction schedule designed to enhance operational efficiency, improve cash flow, and ensure faster turnaround times for both buyers and sellers.
In a bid to address potential controversies surrounding operational practices, STAC has clarified that the auction closing period is typically 17 days or shorter, depending on operational requirements. This transparency aims to reinforce trust among stakeholders in the tea trade.
STAC Chairman Mahendra Bansal emphasised the committee's commitment to efficiency, stating: "The overall cycle, including payment, in Siliguri is 17+13=30 days. In comparison, the Jalpaiguri auction proposes a cycle of 11+28=39 days under similar payment conditions."
