Ruckus in Rajya Sabha over Cong chief Kharge's 'unparliamentary' remarks
The Statesman Siliguri
|March 12, 2025
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday triggered an uproar in the Rajya Sabha over his 'unparliamentary' remarks, resulting in pandemonium in the House.
He later expressed regret over his comment and underscored that his target was the central government and not the presiding officer.
Mr Kharge, who is also the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, however, clarified that his "thokenge" (thrashing) remark was not addressed to the Chair.
He said that he apologised if Deputy Chairman Harivansh, who was in the Chair, was hurt by his remarks.

Fractured Healthcare
The contrast between urban and rural facilities is stark. Metros like Delhi or Mumbai boast world class hospitals, yet they are overcrowded and often inaccessible to the poor. In rural districts, primary health centres are understaffed, underequipped, and frequently non-functional. This imbalance leaves rural populations dependent on informal practitioners, while urban hospitals are flooded with patients who cannot afford private care
