Mumbai: Hostage drama ends as culprit shot dead, 17 children rescued from studio

Rohit Arya, who held 19 people hostage, including 17 children and a female senior citizen, in Mumbai's Powai suburb on Thursday noon, died during treatment at a hospital after he was shot on the chest by Assistant Police Inspector Amol Waghmare, based at Powai police station, according to Mumbai police sources.
The accused opened fire on the police using a pellet gun after which Assistant Police Inspector Waghmare retailated, Mumbai police sources said. The accused Rohit Arya was shot in the chest and was hospitalised, after which he died during treatment.
The Powai police swung into action after receiving a call at 2.30 pm noon on Thursday that a person had taken children hostage in a building called Mahavir Classic. The police immediately responded to the call and called special units and the quick reaction force.
