Moved on from Paris: Nikhat eyes World Boxing Cup finals gold at home

Buoyed bya45-day-longnational camp at the Sports Authority of India’s Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen is all geared up fortheupcoming World Boxing Cup finals tobe held from 14 to 21Novemberat Greater Noida’s Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex.

Nikhatispartofthe20-member Indian contingent (1Omenand 10 women) that trained from October 1 to November 14 in Patiala for the World Boxing Cup.

Nikhat, who lost in the Sikg quarterfinals of the World Championships in Liverpool recently, is determined to revive herseason witha firstintemational medal in World Boxing Cup finals. In Liverpool, Nikhat lost 5-Ototwo-time Olympicsilver medallist Buse Naz Cakiroglu of Turkiye.

“Boxing World Championships in Liverpool was my first international competition after a one-year sabbatical. It was a great lessonaslosttoatwo-time Olympicmedallistinthe quarters. So, my current focus is the Boxing World Cup finals and I aim to win gold and start my comeback from there this season,” Nikhat said in a SAI statement.
