The southwest monsoon officially set in over Kerala on Saturday, a week ahead of its normal onset. This is the earliest onset of the southwest monsoon after 2009, which saw the monsoon set in over Kerala on 23 May.
The surprise early arrival had its share of peril, with wide damages being reported all across the state. Daily life was disrupted in several areas as the state braced for heavy rains. Two people have gone missing after their boat capsized in Kanjirapuzha in Thrissur.
