Spirited chase by defending champions fall short by four runs after Super Giants post massive total
In the end, it turned out to be a case of so near yet so far for Kolkata Knight Riders. The defending champions came up with a spirited run chase before going down by just four runs in a high-scoring Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Eden Gardens here on Tuesday. Electing to field first, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane saw his decision backfire big time as the visitors rode hurricane half-centuries by Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh to post a mammoth 238/8. The LSG batters produced an awesome display of power-hitting to register their second-highest total and the third-highest ever recorded at the iconic venue, behind only Punjab Kings' 262/2 against KKR last season.
