Focus on SKY's batting as T20 WC prep begins with Australia series
The Statesman Siliguri
|October 29, 2025
All eyes will be on Suryakumar Yadav's batting as India gear up for the opening T20 International against Australia at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Wednesday as the countdown for preparations for the upcoming 2026 T20 World Cup, early next year, virtually begins with this five-match series, and broadly a part of the 15-game preparation phase.
The contest promises to be an evenly poised affair, with both sides having won eight of their last 10 T20Is, suffering just one defeat each. While India had one tied game in that stretch, one of Australia's matches was washed out.
For India, their T20I unit continues to be the most settled of all formats, and will be looking to continue their red-hot form they displayed in the Asia Cup. Since taking over as captain, Suryakumar has guided India to 23 wins in 29 matches, with a flawless record in bilateral series and an Asia Cup title to his name.
