The death of a minor girl in a crude bomb blast in Kaliganj, North 24 Parganas, has snowballed into a political slugfest between the CPI(M) and the Trinamul Congress (TMC), with a viral video from a protest rally reigniting tensions across Bengal's deeply polarised political landscape.
At the centre of the controversy is a video clip showing CPI(M) youth leader Minakshi Mukherjee using expletive-laden language against TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh during a protest meeting organised by the Left party in Kaliganj on Saturday. The footage, widely circulated on social media, has triggered strong reactions from both parties, with Ghosh himself brushing off the remarks as "amusing" while drawing attention to what he called the CPI(M)'s growing "frustration."
The protest was held in the wake of a tragic incident on 23 June—the day of the Kaliganj bypoll results—when a bomb exploded in the village of Molandi, killing a schoolgirl. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered swift action, leading to arrests within 24 hours.
