World's oldest film festival at Venice begins rolling with Sorrentino's La Grazia
The Statesman Bhubaneswar
|August 30, 2025
The 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival, the oldest in the world, began on Wednesday amid a flurry of activity, dozens of celebrities sailing to the island of Lido (off mainland Venice that hosts the event) and miles of Red Carpet welcome replete with international bands.
The air was magical, and the atmosphere electric.
But away from this pomp and show, music and mirth and Italian fish and pizza, there lay a bunch of movies—all world premieres and many angling to get into the Oscars' race early next year. Yes, Venice is much better placed than Cannes for the Hollywood show.
