Nepal student's suicide in KIIT hostel, sparks protest

Protest erupted at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) here on Sunday after a 20-year-old engineering girl student from Nepal was found dead in her hostel room.
Angry students from Nepal resorted to block the road near the KIIT campus. Meanwhile, visuals of students of Nepal being forcibly evacuated from the college hostel went viral on social media platforms.
A police officer said the deceased student has been identified as Prakriti Lamsal, a B.Tech in computer science. From preliminary investigation it has been found that the student committed suicide. Further investigation is underway while one of the deceased's batch mate Advik Srivastava has been detained, added the officer.
Taking cognizance of the death of a Nepali girl student - Prakriti Lamsal at KIIT, Prime Minister of Nepal K P Sharma Oli stated his Government is working on the issue through diplomatic channels. In his twitter post, PM Oli said he was aware of the incident and the ordeal that Nepali students are going through for protesting over the matter.
