India Will Be at Forefront of AI Era, Says Piyush Goyal

With the Modi government's sound policies acting as an enabler for entrepreneurs and innovators to capitalize on the new digital wave, India is poised to lead the AI age, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said.
"I am also confident that Mumbai can become India's tech hub, given the remarkable investment being made in essential infrastructure, capital, and skill development," the Minister stated during his address at Mumbai Tech Week 2025.
He emphasized that India's commercial capital has all the necessary ingredients to emerge as a major technology hub.
"Had an excellent interaction at Mumbai Tech Week 2025, where I had the opportunity to speak in depth about India's significant advantage in adopting AI and contributing to its ethical use," the Minister posted on X.
India is cementing its leadership in the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI). In 2024, the country recorded three billion AI-related app downloads—far surpassing the United States' 1.5 billion and China's 1.3 billion.
