Floods in North Balasore: Thousands affected, relief intensified

Even as the water levels in rivers Subarnarekha and Jalka have receded below the danger mark, large parts of northern Balasore continue to reel under the impact of what many locals say is the fourth flood this monsoon season.
While residents of Basta, Bhograi, Jaleswar, and Baliapal breathed a sigh of relief as water levels dropped, they continue to face significant hardships, including damaged household property, disrupted road connectivity, and submerged farmland.
Floodwaters continue to inundate large swathes of agricultural land, severely affecting kharif crops and horticulture. Official sources confirmed that 3,810 people from 13 Gram Panchayats across the affected blocks have been evacuated and relocated to 11 flood shelters.
Cooked meals are being served through free kitchens at all shelters.
