A grand tribute to a legendary queen

In a spectacular showcase of art, history, and devotion, the premiere of Punyashlok Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, a mega dance-theatre production conceptualised and directed by Dr Sandhya Purecha, mesmerised audiences at Ravindra Natya Mandir, Mumbai on 26 June.
The grand event, staged as part of the 300th birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary queen, was supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and brought to life by the Sarfojiraje Bhosale Bharatnatyam Natya and Research Centre.
Over 150 artists, including Bharatanatyam dancers, folk performers, and theatre actors, converged on one stage in a visually captivating narrative that honoured the life, values, and administrative acumen of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar. The production, still in its preview phase, is being showcased to gather feedback from the arts fraternity before its several presentations across India, as informed by Dr Purecha.
