R5 BILLION. That is how far NSFAS has gone over budget for student accommodation this year, and nobody seems shocked.

Acting CEO Waseem Carrim told Parliament the pilot project was launched without a feasibility study, proper risk assessment or even a legal policy framework.
That's not just poor planning, it’s poor governance.
In short, it was rushed. And now billions have been poured into a system that wasn’t ready to carry the load.
Carrim admitted the scheme is in “firefighting mode” trying to fix the damage. But how did it get this bad in the first place?
