MUSIC lovers queued from the early hours to buy new releases on Record Store Day.

- Jon Bamber

The annual event celebrates the unique culture of record stores and Rubber Soul Records in Marsh Street South, Hanley, was one of 270 stores taking part across the country.

Owner Rob Barrs treated customers to oatcakes, a brew and a slice of cake, made specially for the day. The 49-year-old said: "I got here just before 6am and the first guy was an hour before me.

"It is my busiest day of the year. I don't always get what I want. I can order 10 of something and only get two. I cannot please everybody. I am just a small, independent shop, just a one-man band.

"I allow two or three into the shop at a time. I do not want to rush them. There has been a really good turnout. The high street is hard and this brings people into Hanley."
