'We thrive on goals so that will help us'

EVANTE Cole says it's too early to make a judgement about his strike partnership with Ruari Paton - despite some encouraging early signs.

New Port Vale frontman Cole and fellow forward Paton were goal bed fellows in last weekend's 2-0 victory at Exeter City.

That was the Valiants' first League One win of the season - with fans and manager Darren Moore praising their partnership.

However, Cole, who only joined the club on deadline day, says there's more training ground work to be done between the duo.

"I've only been here for a couple of weeks, and you will know better than me, but he (Paton) is a lively character," said Cole.

"In football you try and get on with whoever you play with and try and build a relationship.

"It's only been one week and we played 60 minutes together, so there's a long way to go yet before we can call it a real partnership, but people have said the signs are there that we definitely suit each other.

"Goals are what we thrive on as strikers and what you live and die by, so that's always going to help us."
