Developer's revised 43 homes plan gets the go-ahead

- Phil Corrigan

COUNCILLORS have declared a 'partial victory' over bin collections on a proposed new housing development.

Planning committee members at Newcastle Borough Council previously refused to allow Markden Homes to change the layout of a scheme of 43 homes on land off Lamphouse Way in Wolstanton.

This was due to concerns that a cul-de-sac with 13 houses would be left an unadopted private road - meaning some residents would have to drag their wheelie bins up to 27 metres to a collection point.

Councillors felt that this would discriminate against residents with disabilities, and accused the developer of 'money-grubbing'.
