Jamie Donley's international manager told him playing for the Potters would be a 'great move'

- Peter Smith

JAMIE Donley is looking forward to what he can give Stoke City off the ball as much as on it as he launches into his first season in the Championship.

The 20-year-old midfielder has followed the same route as Ashley Phillips to move to the bet365 Stadium for a yearlong loan from Tottenham, marking his debut with an injury-time assist to wrap up a 3-1 opening day win over Derby.

He showed his creativity last season on loan at Leyton Orient - eight goals and 11 assists - but Mark Robins took note of his ability in the press too.

"That's a big part of why I came," said Donley, who could start in the Carabao Cup tonight at home against Walsall (7.45pm).

'The manager spoke to me about how we try to play football and then out of possession we're aggressive and high intensity. I like doing that. I like pressing from the front and helping the team and help whoever is the striker.
