39-year-old claims authority are not willing to pay the fees

- Thomas Cooper

A MUM-of-three has lashed out at a council - after her son's bid for a special school placement was rejected.

Cheryl Yoxall says the situation has left her 'heartbroken'.

Six-year-old Daniel Malpass suffers with severe autism. The condition means he has a highly-limited vocabulary, a short attention span, and behavioural issues.

Daniel has been attending Kingsland CE Academy, in Bucknall, for just one hour a day. But Cheryl says he needs more specialist one-to-one support.

Cheryl, of Bucknall, said: "He doesn't learn anything while he's at school. He just runs around under the supervision of one of the teachers while they're on a break.

"Everyone has been aware of his difficulties from an early age, they're very apparent. Kingsland CE Academy have been saying that they can't meet his needs for years.
