Experimental zone introduced in part of city

FAMILIES have welcomed an experimental scheme being introduced to slow traffic down to 20mph.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is to put in place a 20mph zone on roads in Penkhull including Newcastle Lane, Whalley Avenue, Lodge Road, Franklin Road, Thistley Hough, Barnfield, St Thomas Place, Manor Court Street, Rothwell Street, Hunters Way and Trent Valley Road.

There will be 20mph signs placed at the start and end of the 20mph zones. The scheme is the first in the city and if it is a success the speed limit could become permanent.

A Facebook post from Stoke-on-Trent Highways states: “Stoke-on-Trent Council is committed to making roads safer in the city and giving people more choice in how they travel. As a result of concerns raised to the city council regarding the speed of vehicles in the Penkhull ward we have developed a scheme to address these issues.
