51-year-old had confrontation with rival supporter after match
STOKE City supporter Martin Boyd has been handed a five-year football banning order after he fought with a rival fan.
The 51-year-old, who was handed his first banning order more than 20 years ago in 2001, became involved in a fight with the Birmingham City supporter after Stoke City’s 1-0 victory on September 13.
He was seen swinging ‘haymaker’ punches at the man near The Harvester pub at just after 5pm.
Police were able to take hold of the Birmingham fan but Boyd ran off.
Prosecutor Helen Shipley told North Staffordshire Justice Centre: “A female officer gave chase up to the Trentham Lakes junction. The defendant was detained. He tried to escape.
“The officer used body force. West Midlands Police officers were also there and the officers got him on the floor to put handcuffs on to stop him running away.
