ERROR PROVES COSTLY TO END UNBEATEN RUN
The Sentinel
|September 01, 2025
STOKE City have lost their 100 per cent start to the season as they fell to a frustrating home defeat against West Bromwich Albion.
Viktor Johansson, the hero of the previous two weekends, spilled a corner and let Nat Phillips tickle in the opener midway through the first-half and that proved the only goal of an at-times tense afternoon.
There were chances at both ends and Divin Mubama hit the post and Sorba Thomas had Josh Griffiths diving backwards to keep out a cross-shot while Jed Wallace completely missed the ball when he had an opening at close range.
Stoke also had a strong penalty shout when players thought George Campbell had used his arm to stop a goal-bound Mubama shot in the first half.
Mark Robins said at full-time: “I’ve not seen it back. It looked like a penalty from where I was on the touchline and my staff are telling me it was a penalty and they've had chance to look at it. It looked like handball and the guy dived across the goal but they say it hit his chest. That'll be interesting to see but it'll only serve to annoy me even more.”
