Duffy praises character as Congleton net final berth

FOOTBALL: Richard Duffy admitted, “we were down and out twice” after watching his brave Congleton Town players make it to the Northern Premier League West Division play-off final.

The ex-Port Vale defender was able to breathe a sigh of relief after edging Chasetown out on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra-time on Tuesday night.

It sets up a final on Saturday away at Hednesford Town (3pm) with the prize, a second successive promotion and elevation to Step 3.

In front of more than 1,500 fans, The Bears conceded in the 85th minute, only to equalise through Daniel Needham in the 90th minute.

Max McCarthy put Town in front in extra-time but they conceded a leveller in the 111th minute.
