Odisha Govt approves climate-resilient, high-yield crop varieties to boost farmers' income

IN a significant move aimed at enhancing farmers’ income and promoting climate-resilient agriculture, the Odisha State Seed Sub-Committee, chaired by Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment (DA&FE), approved several new high-yield crop varieties on Wednesday.
The committee greenlit three non-paddy and eleven paddy varieties developed by the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) and the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI), Cuttack.
Among the non-paddy varieties approved were OUAT Kalinga Maize 1 (Khushi) — suitable for drought-prone areas like Nabarangpur — and two high-yielding mustard varieties, OUAT Kalinga Mustard 2 (Samrudhhi) and OUAT Kalinga Mustard 3 (Siddhi).
