Women Docu Filmmakers Headline Free Screening at MCAD

The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) offers a free public screening of a collection of socio-political documentaries that highlight the crucial role of women filmmakers.

The selection was curated by feminist scholar Eloisa May Hernandez of the University of the Philippines.

"Women documentary filmmakers such as Ramona Diaz, Sari Dalena, Kiri Dalena, Ditsi Carolino, Cha Escala, Wena Sanchez and Pabelle Manikan have been active for the past few decades exposing various social issues such as land reform, plight of indigenous peoples, child labor, sexual abuse and peasant and workers' rights," she stated.

For the special screening at MCAD, Eloisa May handpicked three works: "Walang Rape sa Bontok" (2014), written by Carla Pulido Ocampo and directed by Lester Valle, "Aswang" (2019) by Alyx Ayn Arumpac and "Maria" (2023) by She Andes.
