VP Sara ready to face impeachment trial

Office of the Vice President (OVP) spokesperson Ruth Castelo yesterday said that Vice President Sara Duterte is ready to face the impeachment trial amid the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey which showed that six in 10 Filipinos believe she should address the charges filed against her at the Senate.

"Of course the Vice President will. The Vice President is ready," Castelo said at a press conference.

The survey, conducted from June 25 to 29, showed that 66 percent of the respondents agreed that Duterte should "address the impeachment charges to be able to answer all allegations pertaining to the corruption charges filed against her."

"She's been saying that, and she's eager to be able to present her case or her evidence in the impeachment court so that once and for all, all doubts cast on her will go away, and that's what she wants," Castelo said.

At the same time, Castelo defended the move of the defense team of Duterte after the 16-member legal team pushed for the dismissal of the impeachment case against Duterte.

"There are legal strategies, there are legal remedies that any lawyer can take, so in this case, the lawyers of the Vice President are taking legal remedies, legal strategies that are allowable in our system. So we'll wait," she said.
