Tulfo hits contractor of defective GenSan underpass project

Sen. Raffy Tulfo has questioned the implementation of the P657-million Mabuhay Underpass National Highway project in General Santos City, which was awarded to the Vicente T. Lao Construction.

In a privilege speech, Tulfo said the project, which broke ground in June 2022 and was supposed to be completed in September 2024, remained unfinished and riddled with defects.

Tulfo, chair of the Senate committee on public service, said the project was one of the most alarming among complaints brought to his attention.

He said that site visits and complaints indicated months of inactivity, misaligned column bases, uneven pavements, scattered materials and unsafe passageways.
