Patidongan brothers now state witnesses

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has accepted whistleblower Julie "Dondon" Patidongan and his brother Ellakim as state witnesses in the case of the missing sabungeros or cockfight enthusiasts.
Based on a DOJ joint resolution, the panel of prosecutors dismissed all charges lodged against the Patidongan brothers following their admission to the witness protection program.
The DOJ has indicted businessman Atong Ang and 21 others for 10 counts of kidnapping with homicide and 16 counts of kidnapping with serious illegal detention.
Malacañang said the filing of cases against Ang should be based on evidence.
"The President does not want investigations to be rushed, only to end up without evidence, because innocent people will be disadvantaged," Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said at a press briefing.
