Pagcor Eyeing AI to Spot Gambling Addicts, Fraudsters

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR) is eyeing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to identify people addicted to gambling, even as it tries to strengthen oversight of the country's booming online gambling industry.
PAGCOR chairman Alejandro Tengco told lawmakers during the agency's budget hearing that they have begun scouting AI tools that could enhance their regulatory powers amid tighter scrutiny of the sector.
"AI-powered e-KYC (electronic know-your-customer) tools have shown to be very effective in detecting if an ID has been altered. Hopefully, with these new technologies, we can address concerns about fake registrations," Tengco said.
