Online gambling ruins families, says Marcos
The Philippine Star
|July 21, 2025
President Marcos lamented yesterday that online gambling is destroying families as he noted that it has become more accessible to Filipinos because of technology and digitalization.
"Many families are being destroyed by it (online gambling), especially if it is used irresponsibly," the President said in his latest vlog posted on social media.
"Technology is here to make our lives easier, to rid the government of corruption, to speed up processes, to improve education, health care and trade. Above all, to make the Filipino family successful and united. Not to destroy it," he said.
While he acknowledged progress in the government's digitalization program, the President also mentioned the use of technology for scams, misinformation and gambling.
"Despite these positive developments, it is unfortunate that it is also being used by bad persons for scams, fake news, and the spread of misinformation. And many of us are falling victim to this," he said.
Meanwhile, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said the government is still looking into the broader implications of banning all forms of online gambling.
