'No single switch can shut down entire Phl power'

Unlike in residential homes, there is no main circuit breaker that can turn off the power across the entire country, spanning the archipelago from Luzon, the Visayas, to Mindanao, an official of the privately run National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said yesterday.

"There is no such thing as a single off button, where we can decide to cut off power for the entire country. There is no central control point that is composed of only a single button," NGCP assistant vice president for system operations Clark Agustin said.

The NGCP official clarified that the power grid company adheres to the internal procedures outlined under the Philippine Grid Code, assuring lawmakers, who are investigating the firm's alleged franchise violations, that the NGCP has always been compliant with the country's laws.
