The three publications that make dutifully-studied NBA predictions came up with mixed forecasts before this season started, creating a situation of unpredictability.
Sports Illustrated picked Oklahoma City to beat defending champion Boston in the Finals with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as MVP, New York's Tom Thibodeaux as Coach of the Year and Memphis' 7-4 Zach Edey as Best Rookie. Lindy's Sports chose the Knicks to win it all with Denver's Nikola Jokic as MVP, Thibodeaux as Coach of the Year and Edey as Best Rookie. Athlon Sports selected the Celtics over OKC in the Finals with SGA as MVP, Boston's Joe Mazzulla as Coach of the Year and Houston's Reed Sheppard as Best Rookie.
At the moment, Cleveland leads the NBA with a 17-1 record, losing only to the Celtics. OKC is showing the way in the West at 13-4 with Golden State breathing down the Thunder's neck at 12-5. Boston is No. 2 in the East at 15-3, Orlando No. 3 at 12-7 and New York No. 4 at 10-7.
