SC affirms Ampatuan kin's acquittal
The massacre involved the killing of 58 people including members of the Mangudadatu clan, their supporters and media workers in November 2009.
The massacre was intended to stop the Mangudadatus from challenging the Ampatuan clan in the 2010 elections.
The SC ruling stemmed from a motion of the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) questioning the Court of Appeals for affirming a decision of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, which acquitted Akmad Ampatuan Sr. in the crime.
The OSG argued that although Akmad was not at the scene of the murder, he reportedly encouraged his family members to carry out the killings and sent one of his men, who participated in shooting the victims.
