Naga musician Abdon Mech on his new EP, Not Overthinking This

- — Subhadrika Sen

ABDONMECH, THE talented musician from Nagaland, is back with a brand-new EP titled Not Overthinking This. He chats with Indulge about the stories behind his latest work, his influences, and his love for music festivals. Excerpts

Tell us about your new EP.

Not Overthinking This a bilingual EP, featuring one track in the Sumi Naga dialect and three in English. Rooted in indie pop, the record explores themes of love, heartbreak, slice of life, and loss. All songs were written and composed by me, and the EP was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Kevi Pucho at Element Indie Studio, Nagaland.

What inspired the title of the EP?

In all fairness, a lot of overthinking went into the record. I initially wanted to put them out as separate singles, then at one stage considered adding them to a longer album for a full release. But I had written all these songs in the same season, and it only made sense to release them together. The name itself came from that idea — to stop overthinking and just put the music out.

In what ways did your creative process for this EP differ from your earlier work?
