Mining case: ED attaches assets of Ponmudi's kin

THE Enforcement Directorate on Friday said that it has provisionally attached immovable and movable properties worth ₹14.21 crore in the illegal mining case involving the family members and associates of Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi and his son Dr P Gautham Sigamani, a former MP.

The central agency has attached immovable properties held in the name of KS Raja Mahendran (Sigamani's brother-in-law) and his entities worth ₹5.47 crore, and movable properties held in the name of Confluence a company belonging to Sigamani's wife as fixed deposits and bank balances valued at 8.74 crore.
This action comes as part of ED's probe into the money laundering and foreign exchange violation case against Ponmudi, Gautham Sigamani and others. The Villupuram crime branch police have booked an FIR for the predicate offence in this case.
