Govt mulls bringing Kuki, Meitei groups to Manipur talks table during Nov-Dec

WITH the widespread violence that ravaged Manipur since May 2023, in the wake of armed escalations between Meitei and Kuki communities, ceasing over the past few months, save some isolated flare-ups, the Centre is now working on a plan to bring Kuki and Meitei leaders to the negotiation table at a joint meeting sometime in November-December this year, officials privy to the development said on Thursday.

A series of peace talks, major seizures of illegal arms and ammunition, and a significant decline in violence have brought a glimmer of hope among officials involved in tackling the situation and attempting to bring peace in the strife-torn state.
