12,353 Schoolkids in Thanjavur Have Lost at Least One Parent, Finds Survey

A survey commissioned by the district administration a few months ago has found out that there are 12,353 students across government- and government-aided schools in the district who have lost at least one of their parents.

Of them, 536 from the district who have lost both their parents are being monitored as part of efforts to arrange help for them, officials said.

According to the survey whose findings were disclosed at a review meeting held at the district collectorate on Wednesday, 2,417 students had lost their mother and 9,342 students their fathers. A total of 594 students lost both their parents. The meeting discussed measures to ensure the students complete their studies without dropping out.
