Settlement denied, banks to pay ₹40 lakh to two families

DISTRICT Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on Monday ordered two banks to pay a total compensation of nearly ₹40 lakh to the family members of two deceased individuals, who were denied insurance benefits tied to loan waiver policies.
In the first case, sub-inspector Moorthy Manthiram from Tirunelveli had obtained a home loan with insurance from a nationalised bank in Thoothukudi. After his demise, the bank allegedly refused to waive off the loan despite the deceased having purchased insurance with said benefits.
