The Geographical Indication (GI) Registry has granted (GI) tag to six more products from Tamil Nadu, including the Puliyankudi Acid Lime, Virudhunagar Samba Vathal and Ramanadu (Ramanathapuram) Chithiraikar Rice recently.
The Tamil Nadu State Agricultural Marketing Board and Melapuliyankudi Farmers Association were the applicants for the Puliyankudi Acid Lime. According to the specification provided on the application, the Puliyankudi Acid Lime is a highly valued lime variety cultivated in the Puliyangudi region. This lime plays a significant role in local agriculture and economy,
