Survey records rare, endemic species in South Wayanad Forest Division

A three-day Odonata survey held from May 2 to 4, 2025, in the South Wayanad Forest Division documented a variety of dragonflies and damselflies, with 89 species recorded.

Jointly organised by the Kerala Forests and Wildlife Department, the Hume Centre for Ecology and Wildlife Biology, and the Society for Odonate Studies, the survey recorded rare and endemic species, highlighting the importance of conservation projects for South Wayanad forest. Twenty trained volunteers were stationed at seven base camps -- Vythiri, Kuruva, Banasura, Kurichyarmala, Vellarimala, 900 Kandi, and Chembra -- from where they conducted field surveys across different forest habita
